University of Guam CEDDERS—Guam System for Assistive Technology Advisory Council Membership Meeting Tuesday, January 23, 2018 3:30-5:00pm • House 19 Deans Circle, UOG In Attendance: Lou Mesa, Chairperson; Evelyn Duenas, Vice Chairperson; Barbara Johnson, Secretary; Dawn Maka, Member at Large; Josephine Cortez, Member at Large; Leah Abelon, GSAT; Raymond Sayas, GDDCp Carol Cabiles, GLSC-DLC; Ben Servino, DISID-DVR,DSS; Evangelis Babauta, ASL Interpreter Minutes of the Meeting I. Call to Order / Introductions II. Review & Approval of Minutes: October 24, 2017. * Meeting was approved by acclamation with corrections if needed. A suggestion was made to include all members of the council. III. Old Business a. GSAT Membership Appointment Terms o The appointment of terms have been specified in the officers section of the bylaws but not indicating how many terms members should be serving. The council agreed that members of the GSAT Advisory Council will serve a minimum of one year. b. Whatsapp Group Rules o The WhatsApp group rules was read to the the Council c. GSAT Website Input o The GSAT Website was shown to the Council. They agreed that the Akudi Loan Program, should have its own page. Other local funding will have a separate page. IV. New Business a. Helen Keller National Center - Guam National Deaf- Blind Equipment Distribution Program. * Details of the program was provided. Client in Guam is currently receiving the technical Assistance for the device issued by the Helen Keller National Center b. AT Outreach * A GSAT Outreach was done in the Southern Part of Guam particularly Inarajan. It targeted clients of Catholic Social Service and the Senior Center. Efforts are in planning for another outreach, possibly in the Northern part of Guam. Ben Servino though it would be a good idea to collaborate with DISID. c. Akudi Loan Update * Due to the rising number of loans for accessible vans, which costs more than $35,000 in an 8 term, the availability of funds have been reduced, thereby GSAT will only focus on doing micro loans. These are loans that are less then $5000. This is until loans have been paid off. V. Reports a. Quarterly Report (Disseminated to the Council) b. GSAT Conference & Fair Report * The GSAT Conference and Fair Planning Committee met on November 15, November 29, and December 13, 2018. Details of that meeting was reported that included the Conference Agenda. Carol Cabiles, suggested to move the National Deaf Center’s presentation to an earlier time slot in the afternoon, and to provide them more time to present in the morning. Leah will discuss with the presenters about the shift in schedule. VI. Open Discussion/ Announcements * GSAT Conference; March 2, 2018 at the Westin Resort Guam from 8-4PM and GSAT Fair; March 24, 2018 at the Agana Shopping Center VII.
