An Assistive Technology (AT) device is defined as “any item, piece of equipment, or product system, whether acquired commercially, modified, or customized, that is used to increase, maintain, or improve functional capabilities of individuals with disabilities.” AT services are defined as “any service that directly assists an individual with a disability in the selection, acquisition, or use of an assistive technology device.”
AT includes devices that people with disabilities can use to communicate, learn, travel, do household chores, care for themselves, and have fun. AT helps individuals with disabilities perform functions that might otherwise be difficult or impossible.
